A collage from last year

I was filling out an application earlier and decided to include a photo of this collage I made last year.

I know I had something to say with this last year but now it means something entirely different to me.

Fun, hey?

A collage with text reading ‘Extraordinary Gentle Sense’ and a variety of images including an image of soap and lotion bottles, a rhino, a cloud on a string, a woman in a 1940s style coat and hat, two flamingos and a pocket watch.

Snail!

It was a glum, rainy day here today but something about this little snail gliding along made me really happy.

A close-up photo of a snail with a brown shell gliding along the asphalt in my driveway on a grey day.

July, hmm?

My brain is full today but, for a change, not in a bad way.

But it is so full that all of my ideas are jammed together and none of them will emerge on their own.

Some days I just have to say ‘Ok, busy brain, you can have this one.’

Working in bits and pieces

As usual, I did more thinking that writing on my writing retreat but I did get some work done on my novel.

I’ve realized two important things:

1) I have to make a few decisions about characters before I can proceed with several large sections.

2) Once I have done step 1, it will be easier to work consistently and get things revised a few pages at a time.

So I’m calling this retreat a victory.
