Now it’s been a year

My Dad passed away a year ago today.

I spent the day taking things slowly and easily.

Trying to give my feelings lots of room without weighing myself down.

I did some journaling, some meditation, and lit some candles.

I’m ok.

Today has been hard but I’m ok.

Unexpectedly impressed

I took some first aid training today and, frankly, I wasn’t expecting much.

Usually trainings of this kind are straightforward but kind of uninspired. And I assumed this would be the same.

But, instead, this instructor not only infused the whole session with personality without turning it into a comedy session.

He covered all of the material while speaking from authority and experience. He gave us confidence in our efforts, encouraged us to trust our judgement, and he made his training values clear.

I obviously learned a lot about first aid today but I also learned some valuable presentation skills.

So colour me unexpectedly impressed.

Ooooh, a monster!

A drawing of a monster facing to the right. It has one giant green eye with a purple eyelid, 3 pink horns, two ?pointy teeth (one on top and one on bottom) a lumpy yellow face, and a pink body.

This isn’t the only monster I have drawn this month but it is my favourite!

Plotting (I am a writer, after all.)

I spent a good chunk of my day plotting a mystery game.

I created a dozen characters, imagined their world, and brainstormed the plotline.

And now I just have to let it cook for a few days and let the next steps come together.

The trick for me, though, as always, is to schedule a time to actually sit down to work on it in a few days.

Otherwise, my brain falls into the trap of thinking that it will just ‘magically’ happen and stress myself out waiting for the magic to show up.

If I schedule the work time, I remember that the next step involves actual work.

But if I don’t then I lose track of the work part and I end up waiting for something that will never happen.

So, needless to say, I have another plotting work session scheduled for Tuesday.

Gold Star!

I’m giving myself a gold star for my hard work this week.

I had so many different things to do and I just kept forging ahead until they got done.

This gold star could be in your honour, too.

What did you put some effort into this week?

Literally everything counts.

Your effort counts.

Every time.
