Plotting (I am a writer, after all.)

I spent a good chunk of my day plotting a mystery game.

I created a dozen characters, imagined their world, and brainstormed the plotline.

And now I just have to let it cook for a few days and let the next steps come together.

The trick for me, though, as always, is to schedule a time to actually sit down to work on it in a few days.

Otherwise, my brain falls into the trap of thinking that it will just ‘magically’ happen and stress myself out waiting for the magic to show up.

If I schedule the work time, I remember that the next step involves actual work.

But if I don’t then I lose track of the work part and I end up waiting for something that will never happen.

So, needless to say, I have another plotting work session scheduled for Tuesday.

Gold Star!

I’m giving myself a gold star for my hard work this week.

I had so many different things to do and I just kept forging ahead until they got done.

This gold star could be in your honour, too.

What did you put some effort into this week?

Literally everything counts.

Your effort counts.

Every time.

Poems done, onto stories and monsters

I wrote a poem every day in April and it went well. The poems weren’t great but they were fun to work on.

For May, I’m doing the Story a Day challenge and my own MAYbe 20 Monsters drawing challenge.

The Story a Day challenge involves writing a story every day, just a short one!

And the MAYbe 20 Monsters challenge involves drawing around 20 monsters this month.

It’s a lot but it will also be fun.

Off I go!

Just so you know…

If I ever ask you if you have ADHD or if you think you might be neurodivergent, I’m not trying to insult you.

I’m not suggesting that there is something wrong with you.

I’m not telling you that you are a problem.

What I am trying to do is to save you from suffering.

I’m trying to help you know that you are not the problem.

And that you don’t have to carry blame for having a brain that runs on a slightly different track.

You are doing grand and I am just offering my help.

Leaning into my creativity

I started my day with a school visit, telling stories to 4 groups of Grade 5 and helping them create story cards.

I spent the afternoon drawing book covers.

And this evening I hosted a writing session and did a bit of writing.

My brain is just buzzing right now.

That Maya Angelou quote is right, the more creativity you use, the more you have.
